If you can’t say something nice . . . So I won’t say much. Nic Pizzolatto’s Galveston is full of action and excitement, and its locales in New Orleans and Texas provide a great deal of color. However, the non-stop violence is no substitute for character development, and there’s more to a noir perspective than unrelenting criminality and substance abuse.

Alas, I confess that I finished the book, though. So that’s something. I was originally attracted to it because of the reputation of the new HBO series, True Detective. Don’t have HBO so will have to wait for Netflix to see it. Hope he does better with scripts than he did with this.
